Bioassay Scientist II/III

Cellomatics Biosciences Ltd has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Bioassay Scientist II/III to join our operations in Nottingham, UK. The successful candidate will join a collaborative and dynamic team and report to the Bioassay Study Manager.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biological sciences with proven expertise in bioassay development and in vitro testing of therapeutic candidates, particularly using Transwell-based systems and advanced barrier models. This includes hands-on experience with models such as Caco-2, primary human keratinocytes, and primary bronchial epithelial cells cultured at air–liquid interface (ALI).
You will work in a highly collaborative, matrixed environment to design, execute, and interpret complex in vitro bioassays aligned with strategic project objectives, contributing to drug discovery and early clinical development programmes.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design, execute, and troubleshoot complex in vitro bioassays, including Transwell and barrier models
- Develop and optimise Transwell-based systems (e.g., permeability, transport, and barrier integrity assays)
- Perform laboratory work and prepare SOPs and COSHH documentation
- Analyse, interpret, and communicate scientific data (written and verbal)
- Present findings to internal and external stakeholders
- Lead method development, validation, transfer, and optimisation
- Troubleshoot experimental challenges and ensure delivery in line with client requirements
- Prepare high-quality scientific reports
- Maintain inventory of reagents and consumables
- Drive continuous improvements in quality, productivity, and innovation
- Support accreditation processes and client audits
- Contribute to business development and client interactions
- Develop training modules within area of expertise
- Support implementation of new equipment, systems, and processes
Qualifications and Essential Skills:
- PhD in Life Sciences or a related discipline, or MSc with at least 3 years of relevant research/CRO experience
- Strong hands-on experience in:
-Cell culture (primary cells and cell lines)
-Transwell systems and barrier models
-Air–liquid interface (ALI) cultures
-Specific experience with Caco-2 models, primary human keratinocytes, and primary bronchial epithelial cells
-2D and 3D functional assays
-Biochemical and molecular assays
-High-throughput screening

Job Type: Full-time (37.5hrs per week)
Salary: Up to £36,000 per annum, depending on experience and skill set
Contract: Permanent
