Caco-2 Monoculture IBD Model
The Caco-2 transwell model is a well established in vitro system used to study intestinal permeability and transport. Caco-2 cells cultured on a semi-permeable transwell insert differentiate over time to form a polarised monolayer expressing tight junctions, providing a useful tool to asses compound induced changes in barrier integrity. This forms a useful screening tool for substance oral bioavailability, as well as potential novel treatments of inflammatory bowel diseases.
